Discussion for "Install a programmable thermostat for your whole-house heating and cooling system"

Description

Install a programmable thermostat for your whole-house heating and cooling system. Programmable thermostats allow you to put your cooling system on an automatic timer to adjust the temperature in the house to a warmer setting when no one is home. Most programmable thermostats permit you to have two modified temperature periods over 24 hours - during the day when most people are out of the house for work and school, and during the night when asleep. During the winter, the house may be kept cooler during these periods and during the summer it may be kept warmer.

Working with the SmartMeter /Power Smart people at BC Hydro who say they are removing programmable thermostats from the energy conservation programme - becaue apparently they end up using more energy than simply paying attention! For example, people witha programmamble thermostat set to turn down at 11 PM will not turn down the heat if they go to bed at 9 or go out for the evening at 5...

Interesting. I know that many people don't end up changing the factory defaults on them as well...
