Discussion for "Walk to destinations less than one mile away."

Description

Walk to destinations less than one mile away rather than driving your personal vehicle. At a brisk pace, the walk will take about 15 minutes, in some cases the same amount of time as getting the car going, maneuvering traffic, and finding a parking space, in addition to the fuel savings.

I bike if distances are longer than 10 miles away. Walking takes too long, but I am fortunate to live in an area that supports cycling.

I like to bike too -- so much faster than walking! But I'm never sure what to do when it's raining ... hard to keep dry.

Actually, if you go to a site like Nashbar.com, you can get some really good deals on rain gear. And, I have to tell you, riding in the rain is VERY refreshing! Cools you down as you work up a sweat!

I don't live in an area that is bike-friendly AT ALL! Perhaps that should be an action! Encourage your town and local transportation bureaus to improve shoulders, sidewalks and trails to make them more bike/commuter friendly!

I would say to in addition to the action of taking public transit to work they could add ride your bike to work. For instance i rode my bike twice this week and public transit the other days but i could only report the public transit.

I think biking is probably more energy efficient than walking, assuming it's not up a steep hill. Especially if you only pedal when you need to and coast the rest of the way.
