What is "the old-fashioned way"? What is the new way?

If electric toothbrush avoids a filling or periodontal disease, it saves more energy & CO2 than it costs. Braun claims theirs does.

Is the amount of energy you would save while using a manual toothbrush rather than an electric one actually be relevant?

Batteries pollute! or if using electricity - Any electricity saved is less coal burned somewhere to supply electricity. Small drops make an ocean!

I use a toothbrush that runs on a rechargeable battery. The battery last for about two weeks and only takes a couple hours to recharge. My toothbrush creates less waste than a manual one, because only the brush needs to be replaced. Manual toothbrushes need to be replaced every 3-6 months...annually, that's 2-4 toothbrushes per person!

I use a plug-in toothbrush because my dentist told me my dental hygiene improved after I started using it. I'm not going to commit to this because I feel that another round of root canals will expend much more energy than my toothbrush.
